To solve certain problems that arise in cochlear implant, sinus and skull base surgery, the use of bone cement (PolyBone®) has been introduced in our department. With the goal of making use of surgical bone cements, combining bone growth factors and polyphosphates has allowed the study of these biological materials.
We present a total of 28 patients aged between 2 and 69 years (mean age of 29.2 years) in whom PolyBone® has been used as an additional therapeutic tool in the ENT surgical area. Complications occurred in 2 patients (7.4%). One was minor, solved with conservative treatment; one was a major complication that required surgery to extract the material and remove the implant. In the other 26 patients (92.6%), excellent results were achieved.
Different autogenous and alloplastic materials are of great utility for fistula management, cavity filling or sinus obliteration, among other uses. The surgeon must understand their biological properties, fundamental characteristics, production technique and potential surgical applications to be able to prevent future complications. Among these materials, bone cement (PolyBone®) is an effective alternative that should be considered in surgical management of ENT pathology.
为解决人工耳蜗植入、鼻窦及颅底手术中出现的某些问题,我们科室引入了骨水泥(PolyBone®)的使用。为了利用手术用骨水泥,将骨生长因子与多磷酸盐相结合,从而对这些生物材料展开了研究。
我们共纳入了28例年龄在2至69岁之间(平均年龄29.2岁)的患者,在耳鼻喉科手术领域中,将PolyBone®用作一种辅助治疗工具。2例患者(7.4%)出现了并发症。1例为轻微并发症,通过保守治疗得以解决;1例为严重并发症,需要通过手术取出材料并移除植入物。在其他26例患者(92.6%)中,取得了优异的效果。
不同的自体材料和异体材料在瘘管处理、腔隙填充或鼻窦闭塞等方面有很大用途。外科医生必须了解它们的生物学特性、基本特征、生产技术及潜在的手术应用,以便能够预防未来的并发症。在这些材料中,骨水泥(PolyBone®)是一种有效的选择,在耳鼻喉科疾病的手术治疗中应予以考虑。
