The study deals with new approaches to the selection, improvement and training of leading and managerial staff in the system of public health. This task is of exceptional significance in the course of transition to the new economic mechanism in public health. The psychometric methods of studying the personality of health leaders permit us to optimize and objectify the entire process of work with management staff, to select ones which are most suitable for this role, to avoid unnecessary expenses, to recognize the potentials and aptitudes of each manager.
