Rehabilitation nursing: the state of the art.

Little has appeared in South African Nursing literature on rehabilitation and the role of the nurse in the rehabilitative process. This article sets out to convey some of the developments which have occurred in this discipline as it has become established as a specialist area of practice. Against this background the role of the nurse in rehabilitation has been identified. Recommendations have been made regarding the development of this specialisation in the South African health care setting.
