The authors report on a case of conspicuous retroperitoneal haematoma with haemoperitoneum due to rupture of the lower pancreatico-duodenal vessels appearing at onset of an acute oedematous pancreatitis. After stressing the rarity of this event, the authors go on to discuss a number of aetiopathogenetic, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects.
