The paper is concerned with the results of the treatment of 11 patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus with surgical pathology by a method of intraportal allotransplantation of pancreatic islet cell (PIC) cultures and with similar surgical pathology without PIC transplantation. Carbohydrate metabolism and the level of plasma hormones were investigated. It has been shown that intraportal administration of PIC suspension into the liver can result in an earlier and more considerable decrease in a dose of exogenous insulin that is very important in the postoperative period. This method permitted double reduction of diabetic patients' stay in hospital.
