Aspects of magnetoelectric birefringence phenomena are investigated in the context of electromagnetic wave propagation in isotropic nonlinear media in the eikonal approximation. It is shown that these phenomena can be produced as a unique effect in isotropic systems in the presence of external electric and magnetic fields, provided specific dielectric properties are present.
