Abstract

OBJECTIVE

To assess the effect of metformin administration on thyroid function in overweight women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

METHODS

Twenty-seven overweight women with PCOS and hypothyroidism were selected. Fifteen patients (group I) were treated with metformin 1500 mg/day for 6 months and 12 patients (group II) with placebo. Serum thyrotropin (TSH), free T3 and free T4 were measured at baseline and 6 months after the beginning of the study.

RESULTS

A significant decrease (p<0.001) in TSH levels was observed in group I but not in group II subjects after 6 months of metformin treatment. No significant change in free T3 and free T4 was observed throughout the study in any group.

CONCLUSION

In obese PCOS patients with primary hypothyroidism, metformin results in a significant fall and sometimes normalisation of TSH, without causing any reciprocal changes in other thyroid function parameters.

目的

评估二甲双胍对超重多囊卵巢综合征(PCOS)妇女甲状腺功能的影响。

方法

选择 27 名超重伴甲状腺功能减退的 PCOS 患者。15 名患者(I 组)接受二甲双胍 1500mg/天治疗 6 个月,12 名患者(II 组)接受安慰剂治疗。在研究开始时和 6 个月后测量血清促甲状腺激素(TSH)、游离 T3 和游离 T4。

结果

I 组患者在接受二甲双胍治疗 6 个月后 TSH 水平显著下降(p<0.001),但 II 组患者无此变化。在整个研究过程中,任何一组患者的游离 T3 和游离 T4 均无明显变化。

结论

在原发性甲状腺功能减退的肥胖 PCOS 患者中,二甲双胍可显著降低 TSH 水平,有时可使 TSH 恢复正常,而不会引起其他甲状腺功能参数的任何反向变化。
