Contact lenses cause many changes in the anterior segment of the eye, mainly in the cornea. The long-term effects on the corneal epithelium, stroma and endothelium are discussed, as are the more acute complications commonly seen in patients. Future trends in the contact lens field are also dealt with briefly.
