Abstract

Hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related end-stage liver disease represents the primary indication for liver transplantation in Western countries, but is associated with poor posttransplantation outcomes and a rapid progression of HCV-related disease. This article reviews the risk factors underlying this association and presents the current strategies used to manage HCV infections in transplant recipients.
