The presented case of cystic adventitial disease of the popliteal artery as a rare cause of intermittent claudication shows the value of modern imaging in establishing the preoperative diagnosis. Besides the characteristics of real-time ultrasound and computerised tomography, the results of angiography and especially functional angiography are discussed and their value towards differential diagnosis is pointed out.
