A continuing survey of Medical Oncology training programs was conducted. In 148 programs, there were 841 trainees. This was an increase in the number of trainees recorded in a 1984 survey (767), with a substantial increase in third-year trainees. Since trainees in combined oncology/hematology programs intend to take the Medical Oncology certifying examination, a continuing output of medical oncologists can be expected.
