The outcome for elderly women suffering a fracture of the proximal femur remains poor. Attempts to improve care in the past have mainly focused on surgical and perioperative techniques. More recently evidence has become available showing the impact of postoperative and rehabilitative care in these frail elderly patients. This article highlights this evidence and provides practical guidelines for good clinical practice.
