Adequate evaluation of the severity of pneumonia is paramount for the choice of therapy, prescription of efficacious empiric antibacterial treatment, and timely initiation of intensive hemodynamic and respiratory support. To-day, a number of assessment scales for estimation of clinical conditions of patients with pneumonia are available, each having its merits and demerits. The present paper analyses modern recommendations on the treatment of severe community-acquired pneumonia.
