Hospitals across the country are providing care for undocumented immigrants, often at great expense when they need post-acute care. Many have long lengths of stay when they can't be safely discharged and don't have funding for another level of care. Some may qualify for Medicaid benefits if their Permanently Residing Under Color of Law (PRUCOL) application is accepted. In some cases, it may be financially advantageous to the hospital to transport the patient back to their native countries for care.
