Until recently congenital tracheal stenosis presenting in infants was considered to be almost invariably lethal. With improved diagnostic, anaesthetic and surgical techniques virtually all cases are potentially curable. Prompt recognition and early surgical intervention, combined with skilled perioperative management, will result in a more favourable outcome.
