Eustachian tube is normally closed, but the valve of the eustachian tube may occasionally or permanently be left unclosed, resulting in a condition called patulous eustachian tube (tuba aperta). Symptoms caused by patulous eustachian tube, such as locking of the ear, own voice echo (autophony) and sensation of edema or pressure may be inconvenient. In practice, typical anamnesis is sufficient for diagnosis. If the inconvenience is disturbing to the patient, humidification therapies through the nose can be applied. In severe cases, surgical treatments may also be considered.
咽鼓管通常是闭合的，但咽鼓管瓣膜偶尔或永久性未能闭合，会导致一种称为咽鼓管异常开放（咽鼓管开放）的情况。咽鼓管异常开放所引起的症状，如耳闷、自听过响（自听增强）以及水肿或压迫感等，可能会带来不便。在实际操作中，典型的病史对于诊断就足够了。如果这些不便对患者造成困扰，可以采用经鼻加湿疗法。在严重的情况下，也可考虑手术治疗。
