In this introduction to demographic analysis the author emphasises the role of the population structure (sex and age distribution) resulting from the interplay and changes of demographic factors (births, deaths, migrations). Examples are given of errors to be avoided in the interpretation of demographic data, the apparent simplicity of which may be misleading.
