Central venous catheterization is frequently the preferred route of access into the vascular system. In recent years, technological advances have given rise to multiple-lumen central venous catheters. As intravenous nurses, it is our responsibility to be knowledgeable about the central venous system, the multiplicity of central venous catheters, and the elements of risk associated with these catheters.
