Hirschsprung's disease is a congenital functional obstruction of the large intestine caused by absence of ganglion cells in the distal portion of the bowel. The manifestations of the disease are present characteristically during the neonatal period. In a few patients however, diagnosis is not established until adolescence because of mild symptoms. In this case, the diagnosis was made at autopsy in a 69-year-old, man.
