Two hospitals and a community college cooperated to establish a unique refresher program for RNs who had been out of the acute-care setting for 5 years or more. In recognition of this collaborative effort, the program was awarded the 1989 Midwest Alliance in Nursing Agency Achievement Award. This program is a model of how to work with resources to develop a refresher program that benefits the hospitals, schools, patient, student, and community.
