Evidence from around the world indicates that there is a general increase in the percentage of women dentists in many countries. In the past the number of women dentists holding office in national and international dental organizations and societies has been very small. The situation is gradually changing with a greater number of women dentists being elected to positions of representation. The paper details the author's experiences in her native Finland to illustrate this gradual shift in emphasis and details the number of women holding office and attending the General Assembly of the FDI.
