Doctors' reluctance to seek professional help, and denial of their own symptoms and health problems, represent a special threat to themselves, their families and their patients. This threat has to be overcome by changing the attitude of doctors towards their own vulnerabilities. Their professional work is associated with specific stress factors which can lead to burn-out-syndromes. A special, easily available, health care organization for physicians should be established within the Norwegian Medical Association.
