The five- and ten-year results of sparing surgery in 85 cases of T1-2N0,1 breast cancer with tumors less than 3 cm in diameter is discussed. End results were calculated using life table-based dynamic method. The majority of patients with T1-2N0 cancer underwent radical resection alone. In the latter group, five- and ten-year survival rates were 93.4 and 86.1% whereas the rates of relapse-free survival--88.4 and 79.8%, respectively. Local recurrence did not affect survival; median survival in patients with distant metastases was 8 years. Cases of T1-2N1 cancer had worse prognosis.
