The authors discuss the results of using the dura mater (DM) in forming the bronchial stump in 56 patients who underwent pneumonectomy for lung carcinoma. The main properties of the DM (strength, absence of antigenic activity, rapid replacement by the recipient's own tissue, resistance to infection) allow it to be considered the material of choice in plastics of the bronchial stump. Comparison with a group of patients who were operated on only with the use of a mechanical suture showed that with the use of the DM the number of bronchial fistulas reduced by half.
