Abstract
Five surgical and diagnostic aspects of primary hyperparathyroidism are discussed: (1) Primary hyperparathyroidism and its relationship to peptic ulcer disease. (2) Primary hyperparathyroidism and postoperative hyperamylasemia. (3) The management of the parathyroid glands in the MEN 1 syndrome. (4) Experience with preoperative small-part real-time ultrasonography. (5) Aspects of reoperative parathyroid surgery. The Mayo Clinic philosophy and experience with these entities is discussed.
