Understanding tobacco addiction and the behavioural factors involved in continuing to smoke via acquired psychological mechanisms, provides the caregiver with immediate tools to use. Smokers must be assured of their total freedom in their decision to continue or to stop smoking by a nurse who is better trained in tobacco addiction and cognitive behavioural therapies.
