My interest in science in China, stimulated in 1980 by reading the abridged version of Joseph Needham's “Science and Civilization in China”, continued when I was a Consultant to the National Family Planning Research Institute in Beijing in 1983, and to the Shandong Stem Cell Engineering Research Center, Yantai in 2009-2012. During that time, I have acted as reviewer of the (), and I continue to be one of its editorial board members. What I can contribute as the second Deputy Editor-in-Chief for the journal will depend on the challenges faced by the journal in the coming years.
我对中国科学的兴趣始于1980年，当时阅读了李约瑟《中国科学技术史》的节略本，1983年担任北京国家计划生育研究院顾问以及2009年至2012年担任烟台山东干细胞工程技术研究中心顾问期间，这一兴趣得以延续。在此期间，我担任了《》的审稿人，并且仍是其编辑委员会成员之一。作为该期刊的第二副主编，我能做出的贡献将取决于该期刊在未来几年所面临的挑战。 （注：原文括号处内容缺失）
