[Medical imaging and chronic backache].

The different procedures for imaging the lumbar spine are presented within a general review of chronic low back pain. Plain films still represent the main procedure: they are sufficient for common backache, the most frequent pattern of chronic low back pain. They help in determining further investigations in symptomatic low back pain, due either to spinal or non spinal conditions.
