Abstract

PURPOSE

To report the clinical outcomes of thoracodorsal nerve (TDN) transfers to the triceps motor branches for elbow extension restoration in patients with partial brachial plexus injuries (BPI).

METHODS

Eight male patients of mean age 23 years and suffering from a partial BPI underwent direct coaptation of the TDN to the nerve of the upper medial and long heads of the triceps, an average 6 months after their accident.

RESULTS

Seven patients achieved M4 elbow extension strength and one patient M3, according to the BMRC scale, after a mean follow-up of 21 months.

DISCUSSION

Direct TDN transfer might be a valid surgical procedure for the restoration of elbow extension in patients with partial BPI.

目的

报告将胸背神经(TDN)转移至肱三头肌运动分支以恢复部分臂丛神经损伤(BPI)患者肘关节伸展功能的临床结果。

方法

8例平均年龄23岁的部分BPI男性患者在受伤后平均6个月接受了TDN与肱三头肌上内侧头和长头神经的直接吻合。

结果

根据BMRC量表,平均随访21个月后,7例患者达到M4级肘关节伸展力量,1例患者达到M3级。

讨论

直接TDN转移可能是恢复部分BPI患者肘关节伸展功能的有效手术方法。
