Distinctive myelinoid bodies (myelinosomes) are described in apparently normal endocrine-paracrine (APUD, neuroendocrine) cells of the prostate and urethra. The ultrastructural findings suggest that this phenomenon represents a form of crinophagy, that is to say autophagocytosis of neuroendocrine granules.
