Self-neglect is characterized by poor hygiene, unsanitary living conditions, and inattention to basic and healthcare needs. Adequate education for healthcare professionals is vital to help them recognize the phenomenon of self-neglect. Interventions to assist clients who self-neglect may help to improve their quality of life and reduce their risk of declining health status.
