Evaluation of the elderly patient.

In this article, the history and physical examination used in routine dental practice were reviewed. The examination of the oral mucosa is beyond the scope of this article and is covered elsewhere. The dental management of the geriatric population is an increasingly important aspect of dental practice. Because these patients have a high incidence of medical problems, the dentist must be capable of detecting these diseases and understanding their relationship to dental treatment.
