Prematurity still remains one of the major problems in perinatology causing high rates of perinatal mortality and morbidity. A growing body of evidence suggests that ascending infections during pregnancy can cause premature labor in some cases. The future has to show, if early diagnosis and treatment of genital infections in pregnancy will reduce the prematurity rate.
