An increasing rate of infections with Borrelia burgdorferi seems to endanger humans and domestic animals. This may be due to increase of the main vectors Ixodids, of their infection with borrelia, of exposure of humans in nature, of climate influences, changes of the virulence or resistance et cet. Enforcement of research in this spirochaete and information of the public are recommended for diminishing the risk of this disease.
