Joseph Towne. British pioneer of wax dermatologic modeling.

Wax dermatologic models (moulages) were used as important clinical teaching materials in many European dermatologic hospitals well into the 1940s. This paper describes the life and work of the most important British modeler, Joseph Towne (1806-1879), and discusses the present state of his surviving models.
