Osteomyelitis of the mandible is a very rare complication of sickle cell disease. Three cases of chronic osteomyelitis of the mandible complicating sickle cell disease were seen over a period of 9 years at the University of Benin Dental Hospital, Benin City, Nigeria. A brief review of the current understanding of the pathogenesis of sickle cell disease is given with a suggested non-radical approach to sequestrectomy.
