Based on an analysis of lethal outcomes in 20 of 326 patients with perforated ulcers of the stomach and duodenum the authors recommend to perform planned operations more often in elderly and senile patients, to combine suturing the ulcer with truncal vagotomy, intensive therapy, administration of drugs, catheterization of the superior mesenterial artery.
