David Silverman's book is a research report into doctor and patient/relatives encounters in specialist paediatric clinics over a period of nine years. The method used is based upon direct observation; thus verbatim accounts of working interactions and their detailed analysis form an integral part of the study. This, however, is not yet another work about the theory and psychology of communication; the author's interest lies in the forms of [Illegible word] and the environments [Illegible word] which they arise.
