Some differences in the location of supposedly inhibitory synapses (F-type) have been revealed in the course of the study of the ultrastructural organization of the chemosensitive ventrolateral medulla in the cat at the level 2-6 mm caudally of trapezoid bodies. These synapses are formed by axon terminals filled with flattened synaptic vesicles whose long axis is 60-80 nm. Neurons of this area are supposed to play a different role in the cardiovascular regulation.
