Nurs Older People. 2011 May 1;23(4):6. doi: 10.7748/nop.23.4.6.s2.
THE VALUE of this book lies in the skilful way in which the authors have meshed normal and disordered physiology of ageing with Roper's models of living and nursing. The first chapter includes the demographics of ageing and the second chapter covers theories of ageing. Thereafter, the text is laid out clearly in chapters relating to the activities of living. The authors also include contemporary health issues such as HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases. But, a mention of the physiology of epilepsy and cardiopulmonary resuscitation in older people would have been welcome. An excellent section on physiology of pain includes details on the use of pain tools and how pain affects communication.
