The aim of this study was to analyze dual mobility cup survival rate on young patients under 50 years old at more than 20 years of follow up.
One hundred thirty seven hips with a first generation of dual mobility Bousquet cup (Serf) were included. The mean age at the time of the surgery was 41 years and the mean follow-up was 21.9 years.
Twenty year follow-up cup survival rate was 77%. No dislocation occurred, 44 hips were revised (including 21 cup aseptic loosenings isolated, 15 Intra Prosthetic Dislocations), seven hips were lost to follow-up, 11 patients died, and 75 hips were still in situ.
First generation dual mobility cup survival on young patient was comparable with literature results. The main complications, cup aseptic loosening and intra prosthetic dislocation, were wear-related. With improvements of the defects of first generation dual mobility, we might expect an even better survival rate with contemporary DM cups.
