Christian S. Yacono practices cardiac electrophysiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and is an adjunct faculty member in the PA program at Drexel University, both in Philadelphia, Pa. Therapeutic hypothermia is a relatively new protocol that can improve patients' chances of favorable neurologic outcomes after cardiac arrest. However, implementation rates remain low nationwide. This article describes recommendations for and benefits of therapeutic hypothermia in postresuscitation care.
