The goal of the investigation was to find an answer whether an unilateral scleroplasty has an influence on the condition and function of the non-operated eye. The observation concerned 21 persons in whom the surgery had been performed only on one eye; examined was the non-operated eye. The control group consisted of 20 persons treated conservatively. The period of observation amounted 21 months. In the early postoperative period the persons operated unilaterally showed an improvement of the visual acuity of the non-operated eye and the result of examination of the axial increase of the eye ball examined after 12 months was 3 times lower than the measurement taken in the same period of time in the group of eyes treated conservatively.
该研究的目的是找出单侧巩膜成形术是否会对未手术眼的状况和功能产生影响。观察对象为21例仅对一只眼睛进行手术的患者；对其未手术眼进行了检查。对照组由20例接受保守治疗的患者组成。观察期为21个月。在术后早期，单侧手术患者的未手术眼视力有所改善，12个月后检查的眼球轴长增加结果比同期保守治疗组眼睛的测量值低3倍。
