The phenomenology of forgetting is being analyzed from the point of view of the clinical observer as well as that of the forgetful subject. Six types of forgetting can be differentiated, to each of which the subjects reacts in different ways. Certain conclusions pertaining to the process of remembering and the areas where neurochemical research seems urgently needed, are being outlined.
