Since the advent of pediatric interventional catheterization, the necessity of multiple cardiac surgeries has been reduced. Therefore, the morbidity and mortality of multiple thoracotomies in infancy is also minimized. The role of the critical care nurse in the cardiac catheterization laboratory has become a necessity and a challange. With courage and skill, the risk of interventional catheterization can be minimized and the results are rewarding.
