Information acquired via the panorama tomograph was compared with that obtained via the occipitodental plain film of the paranasal sinuses. Almost all findings in the basal maxillary sinuses were better identified and localized on the panorama film. A plain film of the paranasal sinuses however cannot be dispensed with since assessment of the whole maxillary sinus is only possible on the plain film.
