In short-day conditions, the reproduction of N. copeus is parthenogenetic (no mictic females). The mictic females appear when the day-length exceeds 14 hrs (LD=14/10). Beyond this critical photoperiod, the mictic females rate increases up to a maximum of 60% at the 17/7 photoperiod.The reproduction rate does not vary with the day-length.The age of the parent females has no significant influence on the rate of mictic-female production.
