Abstract

Dental implants are now broadly used to replace missing teeth, and the presence of infectious complications is rising. Dental implant therapy as a local risk factor for the onset of osteomyelitis and its management have not been widely explored. Here, we report an unusual case of mandibular suppurative osteomyelitis caused by in a healthy and immunocompetent patient secondary to mandibular implants. We describe how surgery combined with systemic application of antibiotics allowed conservation of the dental implants in the mandibular bone, discuss the probable source of contamination, and present the follow-up of the osteomyelitis.

摘要

牙种植体目前广泛用于替代缺失牙,且感染性并发症的发生率正在上升。牙种植治疗作为骨髓炎发病的局部危险因素及其管理尚未得到广泛研究。在此,我们报告一例健康且免疫功能正常的患者因下颌种植体继发下颌化脓性骨髓炎的罕见病例。我们描述了手术联合全身应用抗生素如何使下颌骨中的牙种植体得以保留,讨论了可能的污染来源,并介绍了骨髓炎的随访情况。
