Managing a patient with chronic pain represents, firstly, a meeting between two people - patient and caregiver - during which a mutual and reciprocal recognition must be built. The links between the meaning given to a pain, always singular, and the resulting suffering, depends on the history, culture, issues involved, circumstances and language possibilities of the person experiencing it.
