Because a percentage of undergraduate students in their clinical years were dissatisfied or undecided with their career choice, a first-year elective subject was introduced to increase their sociodental awareness at the earliest opportunity. The course content, student reaction over a four-year period, and a profile of the attitudes and aspirations of first-year students are described.
